In response to reading more, listening to podcasts and scrolling through Instagram, I’ve compiled the following list of my recommendations below; a few you might have come across before but hopefully there's a few more new ones to discover too.
I wasn’t always a big fan of social media but I have to say, I’ve now discovered a wonderful community of parents through it; blogs and comedy feeds which I find endlessly entertaining and inspirational. An opportunity to follow those who can speak on the topic more eloquently than I ever possibly could.
The Unmumsy Mum @theunmumsymum - Sarah Turner. Her parenting books offered me humour and a lifeline of relatability, during a dark time in my PND and for that, I will be forever grateful to her. She’s pretty amazing and has started writing fiction too, which I’m looking forward to catching up on.
The Parenting Hell Podcast (and book) @parentinghell - Hosted by Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe and available on Spotify. They’re both ‘sexy and relatable.’ It’s one of my favourite things and one of the few positives to come out of Lockdown. It’s funny as hell. I can’t recommend it highly enough, whether you’re a parent or not.
Five Minute Mum @fiveminutemum - Daisy Upton. Her books and social media feed are full of fun, educational activities, games and hacks for entertaining your little ones. If you’ve already run out of ideas today, I’d recommend having a look.
Man vs. Baby @manversusbaby - Matt Coyne. The King of the comment section come-back! A refreshingly sarcastic but affectionate male perspective. Hilarious content and applaudable social commentary.
Mom Life Comics @momlife_comics - Mary Catherine Starr. An artist and Graphic Designer who posts brilliant illustrations which capture the realities of parenting and often the 'double-standards' of how women are treated as opposed to men. Delivered with dry humour but also a lot of love, affection and solidarity with her audience.
Mother Pukka @mother_pukka - Anna Whitehouse. Campaigner for the Flex-appeal movement, fighting for flexible working for all. Journalist, Author and now also a TV and Radio presenter. There's nothing she can't do.
Katya Sich @kateryna.sich - A very funny 'mom.' Based in the US but originally from Ukraine, her feed has taken a more serious turn in the last year or so in response to the war, understandably. She continues to find light and laughter in her day-to-day life and the realities of parenting.
Big Time Adulting @bigtimeadulting - Caitlin Murray. Offers a satisfyingly dry and sarcastic perspective on parenting from across the pond. An advocate for facing adversity with humour.
Mama still got it @mamastillgotit_ Louise Boyce. Appears to have a whole business empire going on but it's her Instagram account which is by far my favourite. One of the funniest I’ve seen in a long time. The epitome of a yummy mummy (I think I fancy her a bit), she performs short little skits that are so hilarious, it tests my pelvic floor. That is all.
